Evaluation of a Cerebellar Arm Control Model Using Primate Neuronal Recordings
نویسندگان
چکیده
Motivation: It has been long recognized that the cerebellum is critically involved in natural movement control and motor adaptation in virtually all vertebrates [2]. Moreover, cerebellar structure is very similar across species suggesting that the organ performs fundamental computations. Generally speaking, the cerebellum is considered a stabilizer, modulator or coordinator of movement. Cerebellar dysfunction results in marked clumsiness (as seen with excess alcohol ingestion), tremor and major impairments in motor learning. However, the precise mechanism of its control is not clear. A detailed understanding of cerebellar operation would presumably yield insights into both normal and pathological human motor function, as well as into possible designs for robust, adaptable and otherwise lifelike robot control systems.

Adaptive cerebellar Spiking Model Embedded in the Control Loop: Context Switching and Robustness against noise
This work evaluates the capability of a spiking cerebellar model embedded in different loop architectures (recurrent, forward, and forward&recurrent) to control a robotic arm (three degrees of freedom) using a biologically-inspired approach. The implemented spiking network relies on synaptic plasticity (long-term potentiation and long-term depression) to adapt and cope with perturbations in the...
متن کاملNeuronal activity in the primate motor thalamus during visually triggered and internally generated limb movements.
Single-unit recordings were made from the basal-ganglia- and cerebellar-receiving areas of the thalamus in two monkeys trained to make arm movements that were either visually triggered (VT) or internally generated (IG). A total of 203 neurons displaying movement-related changes in activity were examined in detail. Most of these cells (69%) showed an increase in firing rate in relation to the on...
متن کاملO3: Pharmacological Modulation of Thalamic KCNQ-Potassium Channels: Insight from Knock-out Mice
The channels belonging to the KCNQ gene family consist of 5 different subtypes, which assemble as pentameric channels. The KCNQ2-5 subunits are highly expressed in the ventrobasal thalamus (VB) where they function primarily as KCNQ2/3 heteromers. They underlie an outward potassium (K+)-current, called M-current (IM), which provides a hyperpolarizing drive, thus regulating neuronal excitability....
متن کاملProtective role of cyclosporine on the model simulated the rotational nodal arrhythmia (AVNRT) by using extracellular field potential recordings of isolated atrioventricular-node of rabbit
Introduction: Recent studies have shown acute cardioprotective effects of cyclosporine. The aim of the present study was to determine the protective role of cyclosporine on the model simulated the rotational nodal arrhythmia (AVNRT) by using extracellular field potential recordings of isolated atrioventricular-node (AV-node) of rabbit. Methods: This study was performed on isolated double-per...
متن کاملThe Output Signal of Purkinje Cells of the Cerebellum and Circadian Rhythmicity
Measurement of clock gene expression has recently provided evidence that the cerebellum, like the master clock in the SCN, contains a circadian oscillator. The cerebellar oscillator is involved in anticipation of mealtime and possibly resides in Purkinje cells. However, the rhythmic gene expression is likely transduced into a circadian cerebellar output signal to exert an effective control of n...
